When the waves are not firing in New South Wales, maybe it is time to grab your partner and explore beyond the beach breaks.
A romantic break in Sydney is a dream come true, with a beautiful city full of famous landmarks and cultural wonders.
Long days end in beautiful sunsets over sandy beaches, and you can head back into the city for fine dining and drinks. Here are the top fun things to do if you are visiting Sydney as a couple.
Find a Secret Beach
There aren’t too many of them around, but hit certain stretches of sand on a weekday and you will find you have them almost to yourself. There are some great undiscovered options which only the locals tend to visit, like Whale Beach or Reef Beach near Manly. There’s also Milk Beach in Vaucluse, or Wattamolla Beach – which also boasts a waterfall and a lagoon. It has to be the perfect romantic setting.
Take the Plunge
When your heart is racing and your adrenaline surging, you’ll feel closer than ever before. You can try skydiving here in Sydney if you feel bold enough – or there’s indoor skydiving at iFLY Downunder if you want the less scary version. Falling through the air hand-in-hand makes some memories that will last forever.
Take a Harbour Cruise
If you are staying near Darling Harbour it will be easy to visit the docks and organise a short cruise. You can also have a romantic dinner on board, looking back at the city and all its lights. The name ‘Darling Harbour’ itself will put you in the mood for romance, too!
Visit the Opera House
Don’t just admire the sight of the iconic Opera House – head inside. There are shows on almost every night, and you can pick up tickets while you are in the city. Catch a show together to enjoy a great cultural experience.
Have a Picnic
What could be a better date idea than a romantic picnic? There are lots of beautiful, green parks in Sydney, many of them with spectacular views. Pack a bag with food from a local supermarket and sit down on the grass to eat. Try the Botanic Gardens for a spectacular experience.
Take a Break
Fancy a mini holiday within your holiday? Head to the Blue Mountains for a romantic B&B experience. If you schedule your visit for the start or end of your stay, you can simply move from one hotel to the other. This is one of the most romantic spots in the area, and you can explore waterfalls and rock formations before you go.
Watch a Movie
There are several great open air cinemas in Sydney, most of which operate during the summer months. Catch a movie under the stars for a fantastic experience which is more about the atmosphere than the film itself.
Walk on the Beach
There is a reason that this is a classic date night suggestion. Just as the sun is going down, take a walk on the beach together, hand in hand. Enjoy the romantic view of the sky turning shades of pink and orange, and then admire the stars overhead as they come out – all with the Sydney skyline punctuating the scene.
Sydney is definitely a great city stay for couples, and you can amp up the romance by putting these activities in your itinerary. You’ll never forget your time here that’s for sure.
